The statement stressed that Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has not been infected with COVID-19, saying “the test result of the prime minister came negative.”

According to the statement, “the infected officials are receiving treatment and they are in good condition.”

It added that all those who have come in contact with the infected are being traced.

Earlier in the day, the family of the leader of Sudan’s National Umma Party (NUP) and Sudan’s former Prime Minister Al-Sadiq al-Mahdi announced in a statement that he had tested positive for coronavirus.

The family said in a statement said al-Mahdi felt fatigue on Wednesday evening when he underwent a COVID-19 examination. On Thursday morning, the test result came positive. “He is now receiving medical treatment and his condition is stable,” it added.

According to the most recent statistics of the Health Ministry, Sudan has so far reported a total of 13,765 COVID-19 cases, including 837 deaths.
