CAIRO, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — A bus collided with a truck in the Egyptian province of Beni Suef, killing at least 14 and wounding 42 others, Egypt’s Health Ministry said Tuesday.

The bus and the truck overturned after the collision and plunged off a bridge on the Beni Suef Eastern road, some 148 km south of the capital Cairo, the ministry said in a statement.

A total of 23 ambulances were dispatched to accident site, the statement added.

Road accidents are common in Egypt because of lack of highway monitoring systems, poor road maintenance and negligence of traffic rules.

Road traffic crashes claims about 12,000 lives in Egypt every year, according to a recent report from the World Health Organization.
