Manchester City responded to derby rivals Manchester United’s win last night in an emphatic fashion, beating Stoke City by four goals to one at the Britannia Stadium courtesy of a pair of braces from Sergio Aguero and Nolito.

City went ahead in the 27th minute through a Sergio Aguero penalty following Ryan Shawcross’ reckless pull of the striker inside the 18-yard box.

Aguero got his second in the 36th minute, deftly nodding a header past a helpless Shay Given.

The Argentine’s brace now put’s him level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the top of the scorers’ chart.

Stoke pulled one back through a Bojan penalty after Raheem Sterleem was deemed to have obstructed his marker.

City however restored their two goal lead through new signing Nolito in the 86th minute when he easily converted a Sterling pass.

The Spaniard grabbed his second in added time, again benefiting from Kelechi Iheanacho’s hard work that saw him get past Stoke’s defence alone.

The Citizens now take first spot in the standings ahead of United on goal difference.
