Zimbabwe’s new President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dissolved Cabinet of his predecessor Robert Mugabe and appointed temporarily two former ministers to two key ministries.
Patrick Chinamasa has been appointed to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and Simbarashe Mumbengegwi to the Foreign Affairs Ministry to allow for uninterrupted services to critical units of Government, local online website, the Herald reports.
In a statement, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda said that the cabinet reshuffle was in accordance with the country’s constitution.
Mnangagwa is set to announce his new cabinet.
Mnangagwa was sworn in as president last Friday after 93-year-old Mugabe quit under pressure from the military.
He vowed to rebuild Zimbabwe’s ravaged economy and serve all citizens.
“The composition of the new government will show a clear path whether we continue with the status quo or the clear break with the past that we need to build a sustainable state. It’s a simple choice,” said former finance minister and opposition leader Tendai Biti.
