Zimbabwe’s newly appointed Cabinet ministers on Tuesday took their oath of office before President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare.
President Mnangagwa last week announced a 22-member Cabinet to run Government business until harmonised elections next year.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Mnangagwa said the interim government will be in office for about seven months, Xinhua news agency reported.
“The first 10 days have been hectic but I believe that with my team we will stand the challenge,” Mnangagwa said.
During his inauguration, Mnangagwa promised to revive the economy and also encourage democracy in the nation.
Mnangagwa inherits a faltering economy plagued by cash shortages, low foreign direct investment and massive unemployment.
Mnangagwa has faced criticism for retaining many old faces from his predecessor Robert Mugabe’s cabinet. The cabinet only has six new faces to government with the senior military officials Major-General Sibusion Moyo and Air Marshall Perence Shiri on the top jobs as foreign affairs and land, agriculture and rural development respectively.
