Former Zimbabwe army chief Constantino Chiwenga has been appointed as one of the country’s new vice presidents.
Chiwenga and veteran politician Kembo Mohadi will be sworn into office on Thursday, state run ZBC reports.
Chiwenga led the military takeover that led to the resignation of long-serving president Robert Mugabe.
He recently retired as army chief and was last week appointed deputy leader of the ruling ZANU-PF.
New Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn into office on November 24, barely three weeks after he had been sacked from his vice president position by Mugabe. It was widely understood that Grace Mugabe was lined up to replace him.
Following that sacking, he had fled to neighbouring South Africa saying he feared for his life.
Since taking office, Mnangagwa has appointed several senior military officers to his cabinet and the ruling party’s top decision-making body, the Politburo.
