Zimbabwe’s government is planning to control alcohol abuse by banning its sale during certain days, times and to pregnant women.

The proposed policy is the brainchild of the country’s former Health Minister and now presidential advisor on health, Timothy Stamps.

Car drivers found driving with blood alcohol concentration levels going beyond 0.08 per 100ml, and retailers found selling the drink to expectant women will also be arrested according to the new law.

The new law has received a backlash with critics noting that negative impact on profitability for retailers; forcing many of them out of business in a country where unemployment is a big problem.
