Zimbabwe truck driver imprisoned for two years for failing to make way for Robert Mugabe’s motorcade reports local media

Joseph Chakantesa was also banned for life from driving trucks by a Harare court on Thursday, which charged him with negligent driving and ignoring Presidential convoy. The incident took place on Saturday when the Presidents motorcade of more than 10 cars and motorbikes was heading to President’s home in uptown Harare.

28 year old Chakanetsa was arrested about 10 kilometres from the scene of the incident after attempting to escape by driving through traffic lights and at times in wrong lanes. Chakanetsa said that the ERF tipper truck was making a lot of noise making it difficult for him to hear external noises. He was also given an option to pay $100 fine for failing to stop and a $200 fine for ignoring the officers’ instructions.
