Zimbabwe to manufacture own cars?
Zimbabwe and Italy yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on three years of cooperation that will enable the African country manufacture cars locally, and value addition in natural resources.
Speaking after a meeting held in the capital Harare yesterday, Industry and Commerce minister Mike Bimha said that the vehicle would be a prototype, adding that there was no name yet for the brand.
Bimha disclosed that the Italian consul to Zimbabwe George El Badaoui had visited Willowvale Mazda Industries to assess the infrastructure currently in place.
Badaoui said that the cooperation was on technology and technical knowhow transfer. He said that the ideas that the company was bringing were part of the investment.
Bimha also signed an MoU on the setting up of an outlet to prepare food items that were produced at the Milan 2015 Expo such as Croco Savana burgers within Victoria Falls Airport.
The minister said that his ministry was working with the relevant government offices, and that the MoU would be submitted through the relevant processes.
