Health workers disinfect a public bus terminus in Harare, Zimbabwe, March 20, 2020. Zimbabwe on Friday reported its first confirmed case of COVID-19 after a male from Victoria Falls, who had traveled to the United Kingdom, was tested positive.

Zimbabwe recorded its first death from a patient who had the coronavirus on Monday, according to the health minister as he urged the nation not to panic.

Dr. Obediah Moyo identified the patient as a 30-year-old man who had traveled abroad and had a pre-existing condition.

According to Moyo, “He had other concurrent serious medical conditions, which made him vulnerable.”

“I wish to urge the nation not to panic because of this death,” Moyo told reporters in Harare urging those who came into contact with the deceased to go for screening.
