Zimbabwe MP kisses his way to record books on Valentine’s

Zimbabwean Member of Parliament Joseph Chinotimba and his wife Vimbai have kissed their way into record books.

The couple scooped the top prize in a kissing competition held in the capital, Harare, after kissing for a record 10 minutes and 17 seconds.

The event was dubbed “The Longest Kiss in Africa Challenge”, and was organized by the Book of African Records as part of Valentine’s Day celebrations on Sunday.

Chinotimba, the legislator for Buhera South constituency walked away with a food humper, $1000 and a year’s DSTV subscription.

The competition’s first runner up was Mr and Mrs Mbundure, whose kiss lasted for five minutes and 23 seconds, followed by Mr Jabulani Maphosa and Shyline Hama who kissed for two minutes and 35 seconds.

The contestants were married couples, and had to kiss continuously without a break. Proof of marriage was required and it was also open to couples married under customary law.

Concubines, girlfriends and those who were engaged were not allowed in the competition.

The current world record for the longest kiss stands at 58 hours, and is held by a Thai couple.
