Zanzibar to host second leg of CAF Confederation Cup final
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed that the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup between Tanzania’s Simba SC and RS Berkane of Morocco will take place at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
The match was initially to be played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. However, the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) was unable to complete the necessary renovations for the stadium to host the match.
“Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the Report of the internationally respected, independent stadium assessment company, concluded that the necessary repairs and upgrading at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium could not be completed in time for the hosting of the Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25 Final which is scheduled for 25 May 2025,” CAF said in a statement.
“CAF is grateful to the Tanzania Football Federation (“TFF”), its President Wallace Karia and the Tanzania Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports for the meetings and discussions which took place, as well as their contributions and attempts in assisting the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium to comply with the CAF Regulations and standards.”
CAF requires its members to have at least one stadium that meets the required international standards to host certain games, such as continental club competitions and national team tournaments and qualifiers.
CAF pledged to continue working with the TFF and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and all other necessary stadiums and facilities to host this year’s African Nations Championship will be ready. The tournament is set to begin on August 2.
