Zambia on Thursday reported 23 COVID-19 deaths in a single day, bringing the death toll to 199 since the outbreak of the pandemic in March this year, the health ministry said.
Ministry of Health Spokesperson Abel Kabalo in a daily COVID-19 briefing, said that the country recorded 142 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative cases to 7,164.
The new cases were picked from 724 tests conducted, he added.
The country also discharged 118 patients from isolation facilities in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 5,786.
He expressed concern that disregard of preventive measures has continued in the country, adding that this will make the fight against the pandemic difficult.
