Zambia government to install 12,000 computers in schools across the country
Zambian government has set aside over K100 million ($20,000) to procure and install 12,000 desktop computers in schools across the country.
Ministry of General Education spokesperson Hillary Chipango said the procurement of computers is meant to enhance the management of computer studies examinations to avert what happened last year when some schools had no computers.
Mr Chipango said in response to a query on Friday that the government has already signed contracts worth K54 million ($11,000) with three suppliers of computers for the supply and installation of 6,000 desktop computers.
“Half are inbuilt with computer graphics software and will come with art demonstration CDs and 16GB storage discs,” he said.
The Ministry of General Education also says it is pleased with the positive results achieved from teaching grade ones in local languages in line with the revised curriculum.
