
Zambia bans election campaigns for the next ten days
Electoral Commission of Zambia has put a ten day campaign ban I Lusaka and Namwala districts due to politically instigated violence reports local media, Zambia reports
A number of opposition party supporters were killed during clashes with the police. A political candidate has also been hospitalized following attacks by opposing political party supporters.
The Electoral Commission had for a long time threatened to suspend campaigns if the political violence continued.
“During the suspension there shall be no public rallies, meetings, processions or door to door campaigns,” said the statement from the commission banning the campaigns until 18th July according to Reuters.
The suspension of political campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala districts has been received with mixed feelings by political stakeholders according to Zambia National Public Broadcaster
Zambia is set to hold General Elections on August 11th this year
