Two Ugandan youth were arrested by the country’s police on Tuesday for demonstrating at the US embassy in Kampala in support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Bigirwa Moses and Allan Kitonsa were detained while their colleagues; Kizza Hakim, Kayondo Juma and Nsibuka Harunah escaped.

The five who are also members of Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) held placard inscribed with pro-Trump messages before they were intercepted by security personnel at the embassy.

The group arrived at the embassy at 9am (+3GMT), and began a surprise pro-Trump demonstration, a witness said.

They then started negotiations to be allowed to campaign for Trump from inside the diplomatic premises a request that was denied.

The campaigners refused to budge, prompting the embassy guards to call for reinforcement, the Daily Monitor reports.

An ensuing crackdown sent the demonstrators and journalists fleeing, with the two being arrested.

The US embassy officials in Kampala could not publicly comment on presidential candidates back home.
