Young South African ballet dancer wins another prestigious award
Leroy Mokgatle, the 16 year old South African who won gold at a prestigious ballet competition in London last year has added to his silverware cabinet.
Mokgatle received a scholarship at Prix de Lausanne, the first for SA in 28 years and the second in South African history.
The competition, which was held in Switzerland, saw Mokgatle win the “audience favourite” award after the finals on Saturday.
The scholarship gives him the opportunity to further his studies at any one of the 66 prestigious Prix de Lausanne partner schools or dance companies around the world.
He currently trains at the Art of Motion School who have encouraged South Africans to welcome him home when he lands at OR Tambo on Tuesday. The school posted on Facebook:
“Leroy will be landing at Oliver Tambo Tuesday 9 February at 10.50 on Emirates flight EK761. Please feel free to make up part of our ticker tape parade welcoming this young SA dance inspiration home.”
