
Yellow Fever outbreak in Ethiopia contained, Health ministry says

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health on Monday said that it had not registered any new case of Yellow Fever in the country as of April 27.
A statement by Health minister Lia Tadesse said that the outbreak, which first began with an index case on March 3, had been contained.
“The outbreak is already contained on the 29th of March 2020and zero cases had been reported until now,” the statement read in part.
According to Tadesse, the ministry reported 86 confirmed cases and four fatalities from the disease.
Tadesse added that an estimated 27,178 people received the vaccine against the disease and an active case search was conducted in 1,257 households and two schools in five wards of the Enemorina Eaner district in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNP) Region.
“Experts from the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, the regional and zonal health offices supported the ground level response,” the statement said.
