Yaya Toure only African in Ballon d’Or nominee list
Manchester City’s Cote d’Ivoire midfielder Yaya Toure has been named among the nominees for the prestigious FIFA Ballon d’Or award, alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo among others.
The World football governing body today announced a list of 23 names of players who have been nominated for the award.
The award recognizes the best player, without distinction of championship or nationality, for their respective achievements between 22 November 2014 and 20 November 2015.
Club captains and head coaches of the men’s national teams as well as international media representatives selected by France Football will vote for their best player. The winner of the award will then be announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony that will take place in Zurich on 11 January 2016.
Yaya Toure holds the Confederations of African Football award for Africa’s best player, an award he has now won 4 times, and has also been nominated for this year’s edition. He helped his country to the 2015 AFCON title.
Toure is the only African player in the list of nominees for the Ballon d’Or.
