World leaders condemn Burkina Faso coup

More than 10 people have been killed amid protests in the capital, Ouagadougou.

Thousands of youth took to the streets of Ouagadougou to protest the latest turn of events which have seen the military oust the Interim President and the Prime Minister.

State television announced that a close ally of former President Blaise Compaore had been named the country’s new leader.

On Wednesday the military detained the interim President Michel Kafando and Prime Minister Isaac Zida, at a cabinet meeting in the presidential palace .

Many residents said they were infuriated with the military’s actions. The AU and regional body Ecowas, the Economic Community of West African States have called for the immediate release of the “hostages”. Jane Kiyo with a recap of the events
