Sierra Leone is celebrating its first week officially free of Ebola. The World Health Organisation declared the country’s Ebola outbreak “over” at the weekend. The virus killed more than three-and-a-half-thousand people over the past 18 months.

However the survivors of the disease have struggles to get through. At a clinic, 44 year old Kadiatu Bangura was diagnosed with uveitis – an eye disorder which can cause blindness if untreated. She meets other survivors of Ebola with similar problems. Along with the weekly trips to hospital and the physical discomfort, the condition’s stopped Bangura from being able to fully go back to work. Doctors can only treat her symptoms. There is still much research to be done on how Ebola affects the body in the long-run and why.
