Women’s World Cup 2015:Germany thrash Côte d’Ivoire 10-0

Germany scored 10-0 against Côte d’Ivoire in a match that has definitely got the African team thinking about changing tactics

Ivory Coast women’s world cup team, was thrashed 10-0 victory by Germany in their fist game of the tournament that is being played out in Canada.

It was  also a harsh welcome for Côte d’Ivoire who are playing in the tournament for the first time.

Germany’s win is said to be the second biggest in the history of the competition.

This as the first world cup for Côte d’Ivoire’s women’s team

Germany’s Silvia Neid’s  struck five times in the opening 35 minutes at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa, Ontario.

And the floodgates widened in the final half-hour as they racked up double digits in the Group B clash.

Despite the defeat, Ivory Coast goalkeeper Thiamale saved several balls

Celia Sasic scored a first-half hat-trick and Anja Mittag also netted a treble as the pair scored Germany’s first six goals.

The win was the second biggest ever at the Women’s World Cup, with Germany also holding the record (11-0 over Argentina in 2007).

Germany the two-time World Cup champions own the record for most lopsided World Cup game, an 11-0 rout of Argentina in 2011.

Germany used a crisp, efficient passing game to dominate in the offensive zone.

Ivory Coast, playing just their second international match of the calendar year and making their first appearance in the women’s World Cup, were issued six yellow cards in the game and managed just four shots on the German goal.

Despite giving up 10 goals, Ivory Coast goalkeeper Thiamale turned in a series of outstanding plays to slow the German attack.

Also in Group B, Norway enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Thailand.

Trine Ronning opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a fine 30-yard free kick that found the bottom corner.

Isabell Herlovsen netted twice and Ada Hegerberg also struck as Norway started their World Cup with a win.
