West Ham investigating alleged Mohamed Salah racial abuse during Liverpool draw
A video footage has been doing rounds on social media showing some West Ham fans shouting at Salah as he prepared to take a corner kick during the match.
In the clip, one fan seems to be hurling racial insults at the 26-year-old.
A West ham spokesperson confirmed the London club was investigating the incident and vowed action against the fans if the racial abuse allegations are confirmed.
“At West Ham United, we have a zero tolerance policy to any form of violent or abusive behaviour,” Liverpool Echo quotes the spokesperson.
“We are an inclusive football club. Regardless of age, race, religion or belief, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or disability, everyone is warmly welcomed at London Stadium.
“Anyone identified committing an offence will have their details passed to the police and will face a lifetime ban from London Stadium. There is no place for this kind of behaviour at our stadium.”
This incident is the latest in a string of racial abuse against footballers in the Premier League.
Earlier in the season, Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling was subjected to racial abused by Chelsea fans as the two sides clashed at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also had a banana skin thrown at him as his side faced local rivals Tottenham Hotspurs.
The Premier League, UEFA and FIFA have all condemned past incidents, calling for a complete end to the vice.
