The voting for the amended constitution in Algeria has finished, as the vote counting has started.
The final results will be provided during a press briefing on Monday by Mohamed Charfi, the head of the Independent National Elections Authority.
The voting operation was held at 13,236 polling stations throughout the country and 43 stations abroad, according to Charfi.
Algerians were solicited to decide on the amended constitution pledged by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during his electoral campaign.
A couple of controversial articles were proposed in this amended constitution, including the possibility, for the first time in the history of Algeria, to send troops abroad to support UN peacekeeping missions.
To avoid the spread of COVID-19, the Independent National Elections Authority has developed a special health protocol to assure the good conduct of the referendum, including respecting social distancing and wearing masks by voters
