Violence erupted at the main hotel in Burkina Faso’s capital where the talks are taking place with regional mediators after last week’s coup.

Two groups caused a scene outside the hotel’s premises, one group opposed to the new regime chanting ‘No military rule’, while the other group chanted its support for the junta.

Soldiers protected two opposition leaders from an angry mob that had tried to stop them from entering the hotel.

Tension remains high in the country following the coup that deposed a transitional government which was organizing national elections for October 11.

Burkina Faso’s long serving president, Blaise Compaore was ousted in October last year in a popular uprising.
