Van Gaal reveals that keeper Victor Valdes will be sold
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed Victor Valdes will be sold after failing to follow his philosophy.
Van Gaal hit out at the goalkeeper’s attitude by revealing he refused to play for the club’s second string last season.
“He doesn’t follow my philosophy. There is no place for someone like that,” said Van Gaal of his January signing.
Valdes was a surprise omission from the pre-season squad currently touring the US.
But Valdes who is also a Spain International has hit back at the claims with a cryptic tweet showing all the games he had played in with the United youngsters and simply captioned it: ‘…? #Respect.’
The 33-year-old was left off United’s tour to USA and worked with club physios back at Carrington on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Valdes, who signed an 18-month contract at Old Trafford in January, has been omitted from the United squad for the club’s four-game tour of the United States by Van Gaal, despite ongoing uncertainty over the future of first-choice keeper David de Gea.
But speaking in Seattle ahead of Friday’s friendly against Club America, Van Gaal insisted that Valdes would now be sold, with Valencia and Turkish club Antalyaspor both interested in the 33-year-old, as a result of his refusal to turn out for United’s second team last season.
United are considering free agent Sergio Romero as his possible replacement.
