The United States of America has renewed its support of $526 million (equivalent to Sh 1.2 trillion) to Tanzania’s government as assistance in combating HIV/AIDS.
The renewed assistance will include HIV test to approximately 8.6 million Tanzania, this is according to a statement by the government’s Communication Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, local media, The Citizen reports.
According to the statement, the assistance will also include providing treatment to 360,000 people who newly tested positive.
Currently the total number of Tanzanians on HIV treatment is 1.2 million.
Tanzania’s goal is to reach HIV epidemic control by 2020, testing 90 percent of all people living with HIV, placing 90 percent of those testing positive on continuous HIV treatment, and ensuring that 90 percent of those on treatment are virally suppressed, USAID reports.
