The United Nations has sacked the commander of its peacekeeping force in South Sudan.
The UN has released a scathing report on the response of peacekeepers during recent clashes in the country. The report says UN peacekeepers failed to respond to an attack on a hotel in the capital, Juba. That’s despite the hotel being less than a mile from the UN compound. The findings are from an inquiry done by the UN. It found that the peacekeepers were not sufficiently prepared and that there was ineffective command.
The main mandate of the UN mission in South Sudan is to protect civilians.
