Buhari’s trip comes just a day after the United Nations Security Council adopted a presidential statement condemning Boko Haram and urged Member States to support the Multinational Joint Task Force in battling the group. The task force is made out of units of Chadian, Nigerien and Nigerian armies. In the statement – sponsored by three African member states – Chad, Nigeria and Angola, the Security Council acknowledged the progress made following recent joint military action. The Security Council called upon the international community and donors to support the multi-national force and urged Member States to contribute generously to the African Union Trust Fund.
