UN deeply concerned by violence witnessed in Kenyan opposition protests
The United Nation’s human rights body UNHCR has said it is deeply concerned by the increasing violence witnessed in Kenya due to the weekly opposition protests.
For Four weeks now, each Monday the country’s opposition leaders have led their supporters in protests demanding that the electoral body be disbanded ahead of next year’s general elections.
Kenyan media report that three people were killed in protests in different parts of the country on Monday.
In a statement, the UNHCR called upon authorities to “respect the right to assemble peacefully”, and also on the demonstrators to remain peaceful.
