
Uganda’s recoveries from COVID-19 surpass 50

The number of people who have recovered from the coronavirus in Uganda rose to 52 after five patients were discharged, the country’s Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.
“Five patients who were previously confirmed for COVID-19 have recovered, tested negative twice for the disease and discharged from hospital. Three were discharged from Entebbe Hospital while two patients were discharged from Mulago Hospital. Total recoveries now stand at: 52,” the Health ministry tweeted.
Additionally, the ministry called for calm after a statement was issued by St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu district in northern Uganda alleging that two people had died from the coronavirus.
“The Ministry of Health has noted a statement issued by Lacor Hospital on the death of two COVID-19 suspected patients. Samples have been taken to Uganda Virus Research Institute for testing and we shall communicate results shortly. We appeal to the population to remain calm and practice preventive measures.”
Uganda has so far recorded 79 COVID-19 cases as of April 27 with no fatalities so far.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is due to make an address to the nation later on Tuesday on the latest on the coronavirus and the nation’s response.
