Uganda’s gorilla permit fee unchanged despite Rwanda’s hike
The mountain gorilla is a top attraction for Uganda.
The endangered apes can only be found in the wild in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo
Tracking them is more costly than other animals in Uganda’s national parks
The animal’s global population is about 800. Uganda is home to more than half that number, mostly found in the impenetrable forests of Bwindi, a United Nations world heritage site
Mountain gorillas contribute more than half the revenues received from wildlife tourism in Uganda. So the country is keen to take opportunities to attract more tourists to its jungles to further grow the sector.
Rwanda has increased the price for tracking gorillas in its parks to $1500, insisting this will boost conservation and development.
The regional trade bloc has plans to marketing itself as a single tourist destination
