Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday left the country for China for a four-day working visit, the State House announced.
President Museveni is scheduled to attend the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, which is set to be held between June 27-29 in central China’s Hunan Province.
The expo, which will be held in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan, will be attended by more than 1,500 foreign guests, over 5,000 domestic guests, as well as more than 3,500 exhibitors, buyers and professional visitors, according to a local official.
The expo, launched under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, will establish a new mechanism for economic and trade cooperation between China and African countries.
State House also said President Museveni is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
China is Uganda’s major trading partner with imports from the Asian country amounting to 24 percent of the total imports to Uganda, according to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), the government tax body.
Uganda also ranks third in Africa as the destination of China’s Foreign Direct Investments, according to China’s ministry of commerce.
