Uganda vendors resist proposed ban on second hand clothes
A proposed ban on second hand clothes into the East African region is receiving mixed reaction from both vendors and end users who benefit from these products. The East African heads of state summit in Arusha, Tanzania discussed the ban and resolved to have each country develop a plan to phase out the clothes before a total ban can take effect.

Imports that could be banned by the regional trade bloc, the East African Community.
Regional leaders believe the ban on imported used shoes and clothes will boost local manufacturing and create more jobs.
However some Ugandans argue that locally manufactured goods are expensive and substandard.
And for some like used item dealer Mable, the future of her business will heavily depend on a decision from the regional body.
