Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said radios will be distributed for free to aid learning at home amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
The president while speaking in a televised address, said that a long-distance education program was going to be launched.
“I was personally in favour of the free TV sets per village for the learners. The scientists are studying this on account of avoiding crowding by the learners in the villages, which may be a source of spreading the disease,” he said.
“They said the radio-set was better because it was per household. It is individual homestead based,” he added.
Additionally, the president said that printed educational materials will also be provided to help learners study at home.
On June 1, Museveni announced postponing school opening by one more month due to the coronavirus outbreak. Schools and education institutions were meant to open on June 4 for candidate classes.
Currently, Uganda has 774 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 631 recoveries and no death, according to the ministry of health.
