The Ugandan Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported 201 new confirmed COVID-19 cases raising the total number of cases in the East African country to 4,101.
Wednesday’s figures represent a new second-highest daily rise in COVID-19 cases. The previous figure was 176 reported last Thursday. The highest number remains the 318 cases reported last month.
Of the 198 alerts and contacts who tested positive, Kitgum District in the country’s northern region recorded the highest number of cases with 80 followed by Kampala with 38, Moroto with 23 and Gulu with 13.
Over the last few weeks, Uganda has recorded a steady rise in COVID-19 cases prompting authorities to remind the public to adhere to health regulations or else face a reinstatement of strict measures to contain the spread of the pandemic.
The ministry also said that two Ugandan truck drivers who came from South Sudan and one returnee from the United Arab Emirates tested positive for the virus.
Additionally, one foreign truck driver, a Kenyan, tested positive for the virus at the Malaba border point of entry and was denied entry into the country.
The ministry did not report any new death leaving the death toll at 46 but the number of recoveries rose to 1,876 after 59 more people recovered from the disease.
