Uganda on Thursday reported 21 new confirmed coronavirus cases following testing of samples carried out on Wednesday which pushed its nationwide total to 1,353 cases.
“Of the new confirmed cases; eight are truck drivers who arrived from Kenya via Malaba Point of Entry. Three contacts to previously confirmed cases in Kampala Metropolitan Area and one returnee from South Sudan,” a statement from the Ministry of Health said.
“Regarding the nine alerts; five are from Kampala Metropolitan Area while four are from: Masaka, Kasese, Luwero and Iganga.”
Uganda’s death toll also rose to 11 after two people, men aged 55 and 60, died.
“They both had signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Results from the laboratories confirmed SARS-Cov2.”
Data from the ministry also indicated that there were two new recoveries raising the total so far to 1,141.
The ministry added that 28 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 and were denied entry into the country. The 28 were 24 Kenyans, one Tanzanian, two Congolese and one Burundian.
