Uganda records new highest daily increase in Covid-19 cases
Uganda’s health ministry on Thursday recorded 434 new coronavirus cases, its highest daily increase in cases since the outbreak began.
The new figure eclipses the 423 cases recorded last month and takes the nationwide total past the 12,000 mark to 12,201.
Majority of the new cases (430) were reported from contacts and alerts, with the capital, Kampala, registering the highest number of cases with 94, as more than 30 districts reported at least one confirmed case.
The remaining four cases were two Ugandan returnees from South Sudan and two Ugandan truck drivers who came from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The ministry also reported two new coronavirus-related deaths, all in Yumbe district, raising the nationwide death toll to 108.
The ministry did not report any new recoveries from the disease leaving the total at 7,461.
Uganda has recorded a steady increase in coronavirus cases. Despite this, the government eased a number of COVID-19-related restrictions with President Yoweri Museveni arguing that the country could not perpetually remain under restrictions with the future of the economy at stake.
