Uganda’s opposition has accused the country’s police of breaking into a lawyer’s office and seizing crucial evidence meant to be used in an election petition.

Go Forward has accused the police of stealing crucial evidence that was to be used in the court case against the re-election of long serving President Yoweri Museveni.

The group said on Wednesday that men in police uniform jumped over a wall and broke into the office of lawyers representing former presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi.

Mbabazi, who was the Go Forward Candidate in presidential elections last month, pressed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court challenging the re-election of President Yoweri Museveni.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga denied police were involved in the alleged burglary and accused the opposition of “playing games.”

Uganda held its general elections last month, which was won by Museveni.

Part of the opposition rejected the results saying the poll was marred with cases of voter intimidation and electoral malpractices orchestrated by the country’s electoral commission to aid Museveni clinch victory.
