Uganda, Kenya sugar woes: Is there a deal signed?

Uganda says that no formal deal has been sealed between its president Yoweri Museveni and Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta for the export of sugar into Kenya.

The Trade ministry says the leaders were simply making sure the East African common market rule that allows free movement of goods and services is followed.

This comes after a backlash from Kenyan politicians and farmers accusing their president of frustrating the local sugar industry by letting what they call Uganda’s ‘cheap’ sugar onto the Kenyan market. Isabel Nakirya reports.
