After moving through to the third round of World Cup qualifiers, Uganda are setting their sights on claiming regional glory in the East and Central Africa Championship Cup. Ethiopia hosts the two week competition that has attracted eleven countries from East Africa.

The Uganda Cranes have hit the weights room as they prepare for the East and Central Senior Challenge cup. One man that’s been doing a lot of the heavy lifting for his team is Farouk Miya. The captain scored a brace against Togo in a recent World cup qualifier. But he knows regional glory won’t be achieved single-handedly.

Uganda have won the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup a record thirteen times. Already top of the Africa Cup of Nations group and with third round World Cup qualification achieved, the Cranes are favourites. And Head coach Mulitin Sredojevic wants his team to stand up and be counted.

Sredojevic will want to make a winning start when Uganda face Kenya in Sunday’s opening game and later Burundi and Zanzibar. And his side should be buoyed by a string of perfect results in recent matches.

Uganda were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage in the last edition of the competition.
