Uganda confirmed on Sunday its first coronavirus case, the health minister said.
“The ministry would like to inform the general public that Uganda has confirmed her first case of coronavirus disease COVID-19,” Ruth Jane Aceng said during a briefing on Saturday evening.
Aceng said the patient is a 36-year-old Ugandan male who arrived in Uganda from Dubai aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Saturday morning.
“The confirmed case had travelled to Dubai on the 17th of March, four days ago for business purposes. At the time of his travel he was in good health,” she added.
The confirmed case is currently isolated at Entebbe Grade B.
All the passengers that were on board with the confirmed case are under quarantine and their passports are currently with the government.
On Saturday, President Yoweri Museveni announced that the country had closed off its borders as it seeks to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 due to what he termed as “indiscipline of some individuals.”
“Consequently, we have decided among other things, to prohibit all incoming passengers whereby air, land or water. All passenger planes coming from outside Uganda from landing at any of the airports in Uganda,” President Museveni said.
