Uganda Airlines launches commercial flights to Burundi
Uganda’s national carrier, Uganda Airlines, on Monday made its maiden commercial flight from Entebbe to the Burundian capital, Bujumbura.
The plane was welcomed by the customary water salute following its landing at the Melchior Ndadaye International Airport.
Bujumbura becomes the fifth official destination to which Uganda Airlines flies following the successful launches of flights to Nairobi, Mogadishu, Juba and Dar es Salaam.
Uganda Airlines will be flying three times a week to Bujumbura. The inaugural flight to Bujumbura was done at a promotional cost of $255 (approximately UGX 942,000).
Uganda Airlines’ chief technical officer Conwell Muleya said that the launching of flights to Burundi was a great milestone in Uganda’s development and building relations with other countries.
The airline hopes to add Kilimanjaro and the Kenyan port city of Mombasa to its list of destinations later this month, according to the Ugandan government.
