U.S. to re-open DR Congo embassy after “terrorist threat”
The U.S. State Department on Tuesday said it would re-open its embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo, more than one week after it was closed because of a “terrorist threat.”
The U.S. embassy in Kinshasa and other facilities in the city have remained closed since November 26, as U.S. citizens were advised to “keep a low profile.”
U.S. officials haven’t given out much information on the nature of the threat, but Reuters news agency reports the officials informed foreign diplomats that the embassy closure was due to last month’s arrest of a cell of Tanzanian jihadists from a Ugandan Islamist group called the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
