U.S. says piracy increase off Somalia tied to famine

Read < 1 minute

There has been a recent spike in piracy off the coast of Somalia.

The United States says it’s closely monitoring the situation. That comes as U.S. Defence Secretary James Mattis visited Djibouti at the weekend. The U.S. Africa Command says it’s also watching the piracy situation.

It is blaming the spike on the ongoing drought in the country.
