U.S President Trump invites Nigerian President Buhari to the US after phone conversation

American President Donald Trump on Monday morning called Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss combating terrorism, trade relations and other issues.

The Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement said Trump also invited Buhari to Washington “at a mutually convenient date”.

“The two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment.” Read the statement

President Trump commended President Buhari good work he is doing and urged him to keep it up. Trump further noted Buhari’s efforts made in rescuing 24 of the 300 Chibok Girls who were captured in 2014 from a boarding school in Chibok, northeastern Nigeria, by terror group Boko Haram. Trump also commended the strides being taken by the Nigerian military to fight the terrorists.

“President Trump assured the Nigerian President of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism.” Said the statement

Muhammadu Buhari, 74, left Nigeria for a vacation on Jan. 19, which was later extended, his office said on Feb. 5, for medical tests and treatment in London.
