U.S. calls for Monday UN Security Council meeting on Iran

The United States has asked the United Nations Security Council to hold a closed-door meeting on Iran on Monday.

“We will brief the council on the latest developments with regard to Iran and present further information from our investigation into the recent tanker incidents,” the US mission to the United Nations said in a note to council colleagues, seen by Reuters.

The call comes following a revelation by President Donald Trump that he called off a retaliatory attack on Iran just “10 minutes before the strike” on Thursday.

Iran shot down the U.S. drone on Monday, claiming it had entered Iranian airspace.

The U.S. however dismissed the allegations, saying the drone was flying in international airspace.

During the Security Council meeting, the U.S. is expected to give more details regarding investigations into recent attacks on tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
