The United Nations on Friday warned that more than two million children in the Democratic Republic of Congo were at risk of dying from severe acute malnutrition if much needed humanitarian aid did not reach them soon.
UN humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock is scheduled to meet donors next week in the central African country where conditions in many areas is worsening.
The DR Congo has been dogged by violence for years, but which heightened in November 2016 following a failure by President Joseph Kabila to step down at the end of his mandate.
The country has not held a presidential election to replace Kabila, meaning he has stayed on in power.
Opposition leaders accused the president of sabotaging election plans in order to cling on to power.
Thousands have been killed in the ensuing violence, with hundreds of thousands more forced to flee their homes.
According to the World Food Programme, of the two mllion children at risk of starvation, 300,000 are in the Kasai region, which has largely been the epicenter of the violence.
