Two people were injured after suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked a passenger bus on Tuesday in Khorof Kharar, Wajir County, local media reported.
According to the regional police commander Thomas Ngeywa, the attack occurred at 6.30 am and the assailants, who had damaged one of the bus’ front tires, took off after noticing that the bus did not stop, the Daily Nation reported.
The bus came to a stop after a kilometre prompting the passengers to take off fearing for their safety.
Ngeywa did not give details on how many passengers were on the bus or on the extent of the injuries of the casualties.
The attack comes in the wake of a string of arrests this week by security agencies nearly a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta said operations will be conducted to flush out Al Shabaab operatives in the Coast and North Eastern regions.
Kenya has been on high alert following an Al-Shabaab attack on the Kenyan Defence Forces military base in Manda Bay on January 5 which killed three US military personnel.
Two suspects were arrested on Thursday after locals reported seeing six armed suspected Al-Shabaab militants in a village in Tana River County.
On Tuesday, 43 people, among them 38 students, were arrested in Eastleigh, Nairobi, on suspicion of links to terrorist activities.
