Two Cuban doctors abducted, police officer killed, in Kenya attack

Gunmen have abducted two Cuban doctors, after shooting dead the police officer guarding them, in northern Kenya.
The doctors and their police escort were attacked Friday morning in a road ambush in Kenya’s Mandera town, according to local news sources.
Armed assailants reportedly blocked the vehicle ferrying the medics to work then opened fire on the police officer, killing him instantly.
They then bundled the two health workers into their car and drove off, in what appears to be an abduction.
The fate of the foreign doctors from Havana was not immediately clear and security officials are yet to issue a statement.
Local authorities have reportedly launched a search for the medics, using police and the military.
The attack raises questions about security in northern Kenya.
The armed group Al-Shabaab is known to operate in the area and has long threatened Kenya’s security with attacks targeting Kenya’s military as well as civilians.
